Hi - I know that there is a problem with native birch trees doing poorly due to disease and insects. Are there birch trees that are resistant and will do well around here? I want to plant the lovely (but yes I know a bit cliche) design of a small grove of 3-5 birch with a meadow underneath and I don't want the trees to fail me! Thanks!

If Agrilus anxius (Bronze Birch Borer) is present, then go for River Birch Betula nigra, that is the most resistant to it.

If you are talking about leaf miners those get on other birches also.

BBB is likely the beast in reference here but leaf miner is certainly a possibility.

There was a thread with some discussion of of birch issues earlier this year I think. The title had Betula jacquemontii in it. May be some help.
