Hi all--I have some mint plant that has taken over a portion of my lawn--(actually it strayed from my neighbour's yard)--I have tried to dig it out by the root to no avail--it just keeps coming back. Any ideas out there?? Thanks in advance--Obe

A photograph, a scan or even a drawing of the plant would be extremely helpful. I have no idea what it could be but there are three mint family plants in my area that grow so well on lawns that they are considered to be weeds by some people. One of them is ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea, see e. g. http://nafoku.de/flora/htm/gleched2.htm). This plant can form dense mats. Less likely candidates are Prunella vulgaris, see e. g. http://nafoku.de/flora/htm/prunvul1.htm, and bugle (Ajuga reptans, see e. g. http://nafoku.de/flora/htm/ajugrept.htm). Unfortunately none of these smells mint-like.
