    Hi everyone,

My wife has had this plant since before we knew each other. It's grown quite a bit and I've taken over it's care. The little guy's grown well and is now a giant. I've reached the point where I really need to know what kind of plant it is to determine how best to take care of it from this point on.

Complicating things are that someone recently suggested that I could root half of the tree by cutting slits into it and wrapping the slits with soil to stimulate root growth. All this did is hurt the tree and leave gashes where I made the attempt. The idea would have been to split the tree into two and prune properly from then on.

    Can anyone identify this tree?

I'd also like to know if I could cut and root the new growth in the 'new guy.jpg'.

    Dear Community,

Is there any way to propagate a Schefflera tree? As you can see, mine has grown quite large and is now hitting the ceiling. I need to prune it or propagate it.

    Do I have any options?

Brassaia actinophylla. Sprouts from below pruning cuts. You can even cut it to the ground and start it over.
