My wife and I are wondering it is at all from the Ostrowiec-Swietokrzyski region of Poland, which just happens to be where her parents were born. I made a visit with her before we were married in about 2007.

A quick search on IPNI reveals it to be Allium ostrowskianum, with most sources treating this as a synonym of Allium oreophilum. This species is native to SW Russia (Caucasus) and Turkey into central Asia, not Poland, which suggests some other origin for the name, perhaps a botanist or plant collector named Ostrowski or Ostrovsky?
