The grapefruit I have looks yellow with a slight hint of green. Is there a set time to pick the grapefruit? Do I need to pick the grapefruit before the tree will flower again?
Grapefruit become sweeter the longer they hang on the tree. Now that it is in the middle of January, and your grapefruit still has a tint of green it will be sour, but is eatable. Even in natural growing areas like Florida, the best tasting grapefruit are the ones that remain on the tree until approximately April 1st. As you live in the GREAT state of Massachusetts, I assume your tree is growing in a container. Therefore, the tree probably only has a couple of smaller sized fruit. If my assumption is correct, it will do no harm to leave the fruit on the tree. Lastly, your tree will fruit whether you pick the fruit or not. Thank you Massachusetts. - Millet (1,091-)
Thanks for the info. The tree grows year round in the sunroom. The tree has nine grapefruit on it . The size of the grapefruits are as big as you find in a store around here (softball size).
Still no problem as far as additional fruit production is concerned. Congratulations, on your tree. - Millet (1,091-)
