Just wondering what this plant (the tallest one in photo) is. Never had this plant in this garden in the last 30 years. Quite a bit of a scare going on in these parts about giant hogweed and wild parsnips, etc. so I want to be sure it's not going to burn me or eat my soul! Thanks
No, it's the Conyza. Solidago canadensis does not have the same leaf or plant structure. The first weeds asked about are carrot relations with a completely different leaf and flowering stem arrangement.
I guess we'll know more when it flowers. Buds starting to form. I removed the tops off some plants to avoid the flower and seeding but some new ones popped up from under the other plants in the area.
Ron, you said "this common weed" but you didn't specify as to it being the Conyza or the Solidago. Which one do you think it is?
Ditto to Conyza canadensis. Which, to answer the title query, is a plant. And a weed in the eyes of many, though in Ontario, also a native wildflower.
