Olive tree companion plants,common rue

I am growing three olive trees in southwest British Columbia and am wondering what companion plants would be helpful to grow nearby.They are next to two healthy fig trees...I have a large potted common rue (Ruta graveolens ) next to them.I saw rue growing all over the olive orchards in north-western Italy and the Istrian peninsula of Croatia .I know rue is not compatible with many other plants so i'm hoping someone may be able to add some insight.....Thanks,Joe
