i know the name starts with a B. I just can not figure out the rest of it. I am trying to figure out what this green long hanging leaves surrounding a prickly pink middle plant is , so that I know how to take care of it? Thank you!

Bromeliad; looks like a Guzmania to me. Likely this is a cultivar of G. lingulata. The prickly pink center is the plant beginning to flower; the green leaves are the usual growth. After that flower is spent, the mother plant will begin to send up pups (offshoots), and then the mother plant will gradually be absorbed by these and die. It's the natural progression for bromeliads.
