I planted a new Ventura Maple at my Calgary home last summer. It showed new growth during July and August but has not shown any new buds this spring. There is evidence of a small crack 1/3 way up the trunk and still no sign of life on the branches an limbs. The tree is still green when the bark is peeled back an 2 new shoots just appeard at the base.

Is there hope for this young maple, any suggestions for nursing it back to health?

    Thanks,
    Noel

Let it re-grow from the shoots at the base.

See attached picture of verticle crack. What can I do to stop it from spreading?

Sounds like the shoots from the bottom are going to be it, the top not doing anything more.
