My wife's daughter and son in law were away for two weeks from their ground level flat in Budapest, and when they returned they saw this plant pushing it's way through their bathroom floor tiles!

    What is it?

It looks like Fallopia japonica, the dreaded Japanese Knotweed.

Do not even attempt to just snap it off.
You need to use a Glyphosate weed killer such as "Roundup".
Do not expect the results to be instant.
It works by taking the poison right down to the roots and the plant dies slowly from the roots up.

    Use exactly as manufacturers instructions.
Do not be tempted to make a stronger solution for quicker results.

It may regrow again, but just spray any new growth, as soon as the leaves open and are big enough to be sprayed.

Also check outside for more of this terrible/ invasive weed.

That's right ... didn't recognize it at first. They know they can't kill it by snapping it off ...

Brilliant response time. I was only told about it an hour ago.

And keep the room dark as much as possible (heavy black curtains whenever the room is not in use).
