I have a few fruit trees including Cherry trees in my backyard. However, this "Rainier Cherry" tree is my favourite and I waited for a long time to get it. It was bought bare-root (shipped from Victoria by a friend) and planted mid-April a month ago. The bare-root plant had good roots and 1" diameter trunk at planting. It is planted in a very sunny location. It sprouted fine green leaves and shoots for a few weeks in May. Just before the rains in Ottawa last week, the leaves tips were showing sign of minor wilt but the leaves were still erect. After the rains and and a few cold nights at 5C, the leaves and shoots seem drooping. This tree was planting at the same time as an Early Redhaven and a multi-graft Plum tree which are doing fine. Could it be due to over-watering or the rains at a critical time of establishing its roots? Any suggestion for rescue will be appreciated because I waited a long time to get this "Rainier Cherry" tree.
