Any ideas? It's a big ancient v. tall tree in my local woods. Appears to be a hardwood - fallen wood is very heavy and if chipped is a medium brown with similar grain to oak. Seems to have remnants of fine catkins on it's branches. Bark is rough and thick like an oak but darker. Shape is somewhere between an oak and a eucalyptus. Sorry about the poor silhouette picture - it was getting dark.

Excellent, thanks so much. Could manage to get any tree id system to correctly name it.
