Identify a flower in St. Louis area

I have been unsuccessful trying to identify this flower at my daughters home in the St. Louis area. Her location is right at the boundary area of Zones 5 and 6. It's a low shrub (less then .5 meter high) in partial shade on the south side of the house. 2 photos are attached. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Reminds me of Amsonia sp
However, that is a herbaceous plant not a shrub.
The leaves go a beautiful gold in the autumn.
