    Ummmm, I wouldn't give it fruit :/
Venus fly traps originate in bog's, that have a real lack of nutrients in the soil. Over many thousands of years they have evolved to catch insects to supplement the lack of nutrients in the soil. Now that they are in cultivation, the soil they are placed in is full of the necessary nutrients for the plant to grow properly. Most people kill their VFT by force feeding it insects. Once all the traps are closed, the plant has to put all its energy into digesting all these insects, and no time for new trap/leaf growth.
Although it may be fun to watch, I would advise you not to feed it anything, except nutrients for the soil. Just let nature take its course...
You probably didn't want to hear all this, but this is my experience and also what I have read in botanical books. Hope I helped anyway

VFT if you reeeeeeally have to, feed it, but 1 or 2 traps maximum. Clip the dead traps off if you like. Look I'm at work now and I have a really good book at home on this. I will post what it says in they're about them, but there is plenty on info on the net. Just try to find a good site where they aren't selling anything...

Yeah clip them off with a sharp sterile instrument (knife scissors) close to the base of the plant. If you do a search (in between new posts and forum links) type in Venus fly traps, there is a wealth of info there, and all will be revealed.
Good luck to you and bob??????

    Ed,

I could really use your help here. I have an English Ivy growing in a container and I was thinking to name her IVY because I believe she is female on the account of her small leaf size. Or do you think that would be to confusing when I introduce her to family and friends? How do you feel about the name "Samantha?"....:)
