I was wondering if anyone had ever had any experience or could advise me as to how to propagate a sugar cane cutting and in what medium it should be grown. We are wondering if it is as easy as cutting the top of a pineapple and putting it on top of the soil. Any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

A bit harder than pineapple - to be really successful you will need softwood rooting hormone and very loose, fast-draining medium (like sterile Coir or peat).

Most commercial cane is started from seed, though.
