    The following was received via email:

    I was wondering if you could help identify this plant. All I know is that the cutting or seed came from a tree in the San Francisco zoo, if that is any help.

    Bart O' Brien, of Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, has suggested the following for this plant:

    "The unknown Proteaceae looks like it is Hakea drupacea (aka: H. suaveolens). This plant is from Australia: Queensland, Western Australia, and Northern Territory. This plant can take a long time to flower (and therefore definitively identify) - some that are over 20 years old in Los Angeles still have not bloomed. It is hardy to about 20 degrees F (-7C)."
