We have a mature red plum tree. It seems that sap is always leaking out of the tree. It does not produce a lot of plums. Also the majority of the plums seem to rot. Any suggestion on what to do in order to have a healither tree? Please see photos.

Search "gummosis". More than one possible cause.

Also needs some restorative pruning, crown of tree badly congested and hedgelike.
