I started a tree from seed abouy 10 yrs ago,in the house, transferred to ground, near where an old tree had been growing until toppled by high winds, anyway it has beared fruit for 2 years now, beginning with 3, but, here's my question. It is now about 10 ft tall, I staked it to keep it straight 4 years ago when only 5 ft tall, but it started to grow taller and leaning to the west, because that presents a problem with neighbors yard and fence, can I top the tree? will it send up a second main growth? I have not trimmed any of the lower branches yet, and at present is loaded with fruit about the size of a 2 years old childs fist/ Small fruit with large pit. Thanks for your reply.
