http://gaeso.notlong.com/ 25 August 2007. One plant has produced a edible fruiting body. There are three plants and they are in full vigorous growth in Zone 5.

This is the URL to the beginning of the season for my artichoke plants--- http://www.durgan.org/Blog/2007_04_01_archive.html Scroll down to the artichoke entry.

My limitred experience with the vegetable is that it is rather insipid and is more of a novelty than a useful vegetable. Most recipes indicate that stuffing in various forms is the preferred method of serving. I usually serve it boiled with a separate heated butter dish on th side, and the leaves are picked off and dipped in the butter, and the starchy section at the base of the section is then eaten.
