Does anyone know if you can prune a california lilac so that it will grow like a tree with one trunk. I have just bought a small one and hoped to be able to do this. Many thanks Marian
Sure you can! I've done it many times with other lilacs, and I don't see why CA lilac should be any different.
No botanical relationship of course, other lilacs usually belonging to Syringa but the more tree-like varieties of Ceanothus naturally develop elevated crowns. Best would be to plant one of these.
