Can anyone identify these ? They are growing in my backyard at the base of an oak tree in Massachusetts. I walk my dogs here an they tend to eat just about anything and I am wondering if I should be concerned.
They look like Sulphur Shelf mushrooms, Laetiporus. There are two species in eastern North America. I think one has white pores and the other yellow. It's a good edible when young enough, only the tender tips can be eaten. These specimens appear a bit too old for culinary purposes.
They are bright orange on top, white in the middle and sort of lime green on the underside. They are growing on the trunk of a dead oak tree.
