Hi, I have several phalaenopsis orchids, and one is behaving in a way I've never seen before. After it last bloomed, I left the spike about 15" long. (I've done this in the past, resulting in new blooms on the old spike.) In this case, however, the plant is developing a new cluster of leaves about 1" down from the top (!) of the old spike. Normal, an abherration, what? I'd really like to know what's going on. Thanks, Bwiff
It's normal but not really common (maybe 10-20% of the time?)....you have a keiki. It's essentially a new phalaenopsis growing on the flower stem. You can cut it off and pot it up when it develops roots of its own. Simon
