Are these supposed to be pruned or cut back? I have one planted just last summer and it's growth pattern is weird. All the branches grew to one direction, not an attractive plant by any means. Just wondering if I can prune it and hopefully encourage it to grow differently.
Usually these get beat up enough to be pruned down low in spring. Cut above where you see a concentration of new shoots, it may be a bit early yet.
Quincys Slave, I suspect you have your Lavatera planted in the spot where it receives direct sunlight only from one side. In the effort to get as much of it as possible it will send the shoots in that direction. As for pruning, yes, prune it annually.
Yes it was, I just moved it to a better spot (I hope) All of it's growth is 90 degrees, it looks funny
