I just bought this plant from a garden center today. I have been trying my hand at the art of bonsai and I was hoping that this plant would help me to learn how to maintain them once they are in a shape that you want. The only problem is that the tag that came with it was terribly general. Does anybody know exactly what kind of plant this is? Thanks in advance for your time.

note: the pictures I took of it are posted here.

I'm not sure about that. The bark is not rugged, but not smooth either. Also, (I'm not sure whether you can tell in the pictures I took) the leaves almost look like they have serrated edges.

I agree, looks like Seiju cultivar, I have one (not bonsai). You will have to work on bringing it back to the way a bonsai should look.
