I found this flower blooming by the side of my driveway, in a semi-shaded area. Can someone identify this plant for me?

It looks to me like a carnivorous pitcher plant, but that's a novice's guess.

I agree with Cypripedium, pink lady's slipper orchid.

    Orpheus,
Read what it says on Wikipedia. Just enjoy it, and please don't pick it - that will kill it.
The Pink Lady's Slipper (common name) is the provincial flower of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and in Nova Scotia, Canada it is considered endangered and is protected by law.
Some bird really liked you and gave you a great present. lol ;)))

You are so lucky to have one, I've lived in Nova Scotia for over 28 years, have done a lot touring in my own province and in PEI and have never seen one except in pictures. You've taken a beautiful picture.

Thanks to all. I will cherish this flower, and await its return next year.
