I am relatively new to beeches. Since the garden is almost filled up with maples, I have to be very discerning with the cultivars I choose and stay with either small or columnar taxons.

My first contribution to this new forum is a cultivar I added this year: Fagus sylvatica 'Franken'. This is the description I was given by the grower:
I planted it in the ground in dappled shade since it is suceptible to sunburn. The pics were taken end June.
Is it available in the USA?

    Gomero,

To my knowledge, this one is not yet available here in the US. Beautiful looking cultivar. Do you know who introduced it?

A similar one that is becoming available here in the U.S. is Fagus sylvatica 'Nicole', founded and introduced by a propogator here in New Jersey named George Okken. It was originally called 'Nicole Okken', but I've since seen it advertised a few places by simply 'Nicole'. 'Nicole' shows more of a yellow streaking/blotching, where your cultivar appears more white. I'll try and post photos of some fresh grafts of 'Nicole' under a new thread when I have time to take some photos.

I'm really glad that you've found this forum and have interest in Fagus cultivars. I'd love to see more photos of newer (and older) cultivars not yet available in the US.

    Take care,
    Brian

It's named after Frankenstein's monster. Nothing else is quite so ugly as this diseased-looking cultivar.

It was named in your honor. Now you hurt someone's feelings. Maybe they will change the name now. Maybe name it after some other message board guy.
