On Galiano Island this weekend, we found a strange yellow fungus. Little cylindrical shoots about 1-4cm tall, growing close together. A couple of them seem to have unfurled into flattish oblongs maybe 1cm x 5cm. Not that I know anything about fungus, but we've seen a lot of different kinds and none like this, and nothing much like it in the little identification book we have.
Mycorob is probably typing out the species name as I write this, but in the meantime have you checked out these keys? http://www.svims.ca/council/Clubs.htm#nYel
Thanks very much to both replies - I followed the identification link sabetts' suggested and found "suspect Neolecta vitellina if fruitbodies are spatula-shaped or particularly irregular" which fits MycoRob's identification, as well as the shape of what I take to be the more mature specimen.
