so ive been walking around the neighborhood and ive noticed alot of people have hay over the soil and their plants are growing through it. I dont have anything, really this is my first year with a garden so im wondering if this is recomended and for what reason? could you use mulch or something eles also
Maybe they have heard of the 'Ruth Stout No Work Gardening Method', wherein she mulched vegetables quite deeply with hay in an eastern climate. (Here our cool summers make it so we might want to leave the soil exposed, at least for warm season crops).
