From a newcomer: I bought this as a self-heading Monstera dodsonii, but the name is not on the Kew list. There is a Philodendron dodsonii, but that is a climber. Does anyone know what this plant is?

Gidday Ian , that plant looks like a Culcasia manii , tough clumping species that grows much like an Aglaonema .

In addition to accurate naming it appears to be in need of some kind of nutrient supplementation, as it is rather chlorotic.

Looks like a perfectly healthy plant to me, with the correct name I supplied in an earlier post .

    Re: Try again

I spotted an inflorescence on one of my plants this arvo.
Have been growing this sp. for many years , and know it well .
Seeds often set , but can take 18 months to mature.
There is another Culcasia that is a climber .

Many thanks Trikus and others. We will see if it will do in the garden in Sydney. My other African, Circestis mirabilis, had to be rescued after its first winter and returned to the warm room.

    Re: Try again

Ed, the Culcasia was from the recent Nambour Expo. There were about four plants and I think our Sydney gang bought them all. Given a couple of weeks I can ask around if anyone recalls who was the supplier. It was not Utopia. The Circestis came a few years ago from a small backyard nursery on the Sunshine Coast where it was growing outside in their garden and a piece was dug up for me. IanE

    Re: Try again

Thanks for that Ian. I heard there were some nice aroids for sale at the Nambour Expo. Looks like I will be going next year. I am always on the lookout for different aroids. If anyone can recall the grower that would be most helpful. Thanks

Ed , were do you reckon I took the pictures of the flowers ??? I have 10 massive pots of this . Its an old fashioned plant that seems to be never offered for sale . Ones at Nambour would have been from Hilders , who gets them from my mate .

    Re: Try again

Trikus, when our Palm & Cycad Society was getting old and tired we expanded to Sydney Tropical Garden Society as many were interested in aroids, broms, orchids etc. I am on a learning curve with the aroids. My wife is the real gardener, but does not do computers. Likely I will have mainly questions to contribute. IanE
