This plan was at elevation 5000 feet in Washington last week. Smelled fine - not like dirty socks. Is it another variety? Margaret
Plenty of Eriogonum species in Washington. A location would help to determine this to species (there are many more east of the Coast-Cascades than west).
I'm fairly certain it is the one you're calling dirty socks. Could be post-production of scent -- the coloured flower heads suggest these are older inflorescences, probably post-pollination.
Great. Thx so much. Now I have just one more from the same excursion that I'm unsure about and will post.
