This plan was at elevation 5000 feet in Washington last week. Smelled fine - not like dirty socks. Is it another variety?

Plenty of Eriogonum species in Washington. A location would help to determine this to species (there are many more east of the Coast-Cascades than west).

This was on the west side of Washington, not far from Rockport, up Sauk Mountain, near the top.

I'm fairly certain it is the one you're calling dirty socks. Could be post-production of scent -- the coloured flower heads suggest these are older inflorescences, probably post-pollination.

    Great. Thx so much.
Now I have just one more from the same excursion that I'm unsure about and will post.
