Hullo I'm new to this forum and found it while googling "Star of Jerusalem" and "Star of Bethlehem". Someone named this plant for me once but cannot remember which it was and a search for both on the www came up with nothing. I live on the Fleurieu Peninsula in Southern South Australia and am fairly sure that this plant is not indigenous. Would be wonderful if someone can tell me what it is. It always begins flowering at the beginning of our Spring (September) and is a very delightful and welcome harbinger of warmer weather. Hope the attaching of picture works... Thanks, Renate
Welcome Renate. Looks like Scilla peruviana. Common name Portuese Squill. It does not come from Peru. It is named after a ship! http://www.google.co.uk/images?q=sc...&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1239&bih=528 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_Squill
