    Jacaranda mimosifolia, Lamiales, Bignoniaceae

Jacaranda (Bignoniaceae) is a tree form, growing upto 30-40 feet height. It looks extremely beautiful during winter in India (Dec to Feb), being bald without leaves and each branchlet ending in tufts of purple-papery flowers. Appears from far, as a purple patch in the canopy roof. Well, most of the Bignoniaceae’ans are flower only bearing trees during winter and provide colorful scenery to the whole garden.

Belonging to Order: Lamiales, only the flower design is similar to the cousin Family: Lamiaceae (the Ocimum family) while the stem structure is different.

Mysore, India is entering the early weeks of the Hot Summer, a few Jac’s are making our CSIR-CFTRI-campus a little pleasing.
