I have a white dogwood which was planted 6 years ago. Last year it bloomed prolifically and this year I have no blooms at all. It has an abundance of green foliage, but no blooms. It had red fruit last fall and was very beautiful. What could the problem be?

Probably on vacation, a bunch of energy having been used for heavy flowering and some fruiting last time. When certain orchard fruit cultivars exhibit this behavior on a regular basis these are said to be alternate bearing.

Flower buds for this year would have been set last summer or fall, while the effects of the heavy production that year on the tree's energy levels were probably still strong.
