I went to a nursery and saw this tree, it's only about 3 1/2 feet tall, but was very interesting so I bought it. It was in really tight compact soil and in a very small container. I transplanted it into a larger container (not much larger, possibly the problem?) but I don't want it to get much bigger (I live in an apartment and wish to keep it as a houseplant) but now my leaves are very brittle and seem to have a type of mildew or something? Because they are slightly powdery. I'm not sure what to do, and I really don't want it to die :/ Help please!!

Maybe it froze at the outlet before you bought it. At any rate, Arbutus unedo is not a house plant.
