Hi! I was wondering if anyone knew why the Pink princess sometimes had green leaves and sometimes red. Is it something in the soil? Or the amount of light? Or is it just the variegation aspect of the plant? Just curious...
Interesting, mine have always come out plain purple or variegated. You may want to move this to the Aroid forum, for some more in depth answers. Ed
Uuuuhh, how do I do that? Just retype it and delete this one, or is there a "move" process. Your leaves are purple? Do you have a pic?
brownthumb, I don't have this philo, but yours looks ok to me, like others I have seen online. If colors start to fade away, a little more brighter light will keep the colors more bright. Here's a link to the Aroid forum... Just ask your question again. http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=272
What I'm seeing in your picture is new red leaves becoming green as they mature. Many kinds of plants have non-green new growth.
more light might make a difference. i do think it's just a matter of the coloring will develop as the leaf grows/matures, though. you can move the post by going to 'thread tools' which is at the upper right-corner of the thread.
Ooohh! Thanks for the help. I didn't see that little button up there. It must be that they change as they mature. I didn't even think of that. Sorry! (silly me!) I haven't had it that long.
Re: Philodendron Pink princess info Your Philodendron looks perfectly normal, why the leaves change colour, I don't know, but I have a few like yours and they also have different colour leaves.
Re: Philodendron Pink princess info Is yours very picky? Do you know if there is a way to bring more of the pink out (soil or light) or is that completely beyond our control? I didn't know the leaves came out like that, I haven't had it very long, these are the first.
Re: Philodendron Pink princess info Mine are not really "picky", some have more pink leaves than the others, I think it is a matter of luck. I have mine if full shade but with a lot of light.
Re: Philodendron Pink princess info I have a leaf yellowing now. Not sure why. Maybe I should move it to lower light.
Re: Philodendron Pink princess info I don't think "move it to a lower light" would make any difference. Maybe the "yellowing" is because the leaf is going to die, they don't last a long time, and new leaves sprout
Re: Philodendron Pink princess info You lose leaves too? I thought maybe I was doing someting wrong. Do all philodendrons loose leaves like that?
Re: Philodendron Pink princess info All plants do; it's just more noticable in aroids, like your Philo. It's worse when you've got aroids that don't have a central stem (like your Philo does) - something like Caladiums. Then the leaf drops off and you have no clue when another's on its way. At least with central-stemmed aroids you can see the new leaf-buds.
Re: Philodendron Pink princess info I understand what you mean, I had caladiums this summer. Thanks for the analogy!
