At address 12674-17Ave in South Surrey we found this amazing tree.
Looks like Ichiyo, something maybe different. Green shiny leaves.

I may be mistaken, but I recall that 'Imose' has two other features besides the shiny leaves and flat-open flowers that distinguish it. One is that a significant (i.e., noticeable) proportion of the leaves have blunted leaf tips (not acuminate tips as is normal with most cherries), and the other is the tendency to produce cherries in pairs. Obviously, we'll have to wait for fruiting.

I could be misremembering the details. I'm away from the office, so I can't look it up.

Tom Wheeler showed me the tree.He can't recall seeing 'Imose' in fruit. Of course, I would come in a month and later to check if there are any cherries. There are lots of blunted leaf tips in my photos, isn't that enough to name it?

Nadia showed me this tree today. If I had never heard of 'Imose', I'd have just thought 'Ichiyo' and been done with it. I forgot about the blunted leaf tips, but the second photo shows blunted leaf tips at the top of the photo, acuminate tips at the bottom. All my 'Ichiyo' photos show some blunted leaf tips. All my photos of this show some of each, more of acuminate. The pistils look like pistils in my 'Ichiyo' photos - single or twin phylloid pistils and maybe another that does not seem phylloid. These flowers are almost uniformly 4cm in diameter. Of course I didn't remember to measure the stems, but that seems so ridiculously variable anyway. Nadia's impression was that this tree is sparcer, with flowers more in balls at the ends of the twigs.

This tree is partly dead, and has avium growth a meter or so from the trunk.

We visited a few trees Nadia thought were 'Ichiyo' for comparison. Leaves on this tree were more bronze; flowers were more like 3.5cm in diameter.

But on this tree at another location, the leaves were dark green, flowers were 4cm.

Nadia and Tom talked to the owner when they saw the tree two years ago. It was there already when she moved in; she didn't know anything about it.
