I have a 4 year old eucalyptus which was badly damaged two winters ago and again this winter. We have trimmed the top, it still has most of its leaves but they are brown and crisp. The base of the truck is split in numerous places, but it is still alive. I would like to know how to prune it to promote new growth

What will promote new growth is the advancement of the growing season - if the base is still viable. Cut off the dead, see what happens.
