My Meyer lemon is showing stress because the leaves are being attacked by some insect. The leaves have a shiny sticky appearance and are curling up. What should I do.
Re: nbdavis Photos would be helpful in identification. It is likely a sap-sucking insect such as aphid or scale. The sticky substance is honeydew excreted by the insect. If so, recommended treatment is horticultural oil or insecticidal soap spray. The former is reputed to be more effective. The latter requires multiple applications for scale and is generally ineffective against the adults.
When my lemon trees were under attack from scale, the leaves below the scale would have a sticky resin on them. It's good to spray your Meyer Lemons a 3-4 times per year with horticultural oil and water. Mites and scale really do a number on them.
