i have a 70 year old norway maple that started thinning out this year. i have been its owner for past 10 years. I left the water dripping on it today to try and save. it is only tree in yard that cools the property. any advice is appreciated/

Probably age. Not much can be done about it. Norway Maple lifespan is 60-80 years.

There can be other factors, though, read this NORWAY MAPLE DECLINE study by the Dept. of Environmental & Forest Biology SUNY in Syracuse, New York.

And plant something else in your yard that will eventually replace it.
