DSC_8532 copy.jpg This plant I found growing in quite hostile conditions but obviously quite acceptable to the plant! Growing at a quota of 2300ft on the Southern Italian Apennines. I am more inclined to believe it to be the species CRENATA. The problem with all the Scabiosa sp. is that they are extremely polymorphic which makes identification even more difficult. There are two Italian sites which run forums, they are: "Acta Plantarum" and "Flora Italiana" Even these two sites have little or nothing of the genus Scabiosa! However, perhaps someone who specialises in Dipsacaceae might come across my thread. Hope so!!! In any event many thanks.

Identified as Lomelosia (Scabiosa) crenata. Lomelosia is the new nomenclature for Scabiosa.
