I am having a hard time figuring out what cultivar this tree is. At first I thought it was a Beni Kawa but I bought a Beni Kawa today and it's definitely not that. I have a Sango Kaku and it's not the same. I also have a Japanese Sunrise and it's not the same either. There are not too many other coral bark maples out there. Could it be a seedling? Anybody have any opinions? I got it for little to nothing and it is going to make a pretty tree regardless but I would just like to know what it is if possible.

    Hello,

To me, if the bark on the smaller branches are a bit reddish, I wouldn't say it can be labeled "coral bark": I have a couple of Acer palmatum palmatum, the plain species that show the same colours...

I'm curious to read what others will say.
