Identification: What are this mushrooms

    I am in squamish BC and I found this mushrooms right at my door ina old stump. Can anyone tell me what are they and if i can eat them?

    I doubt they are edible. I need to know the color of the gills (and i'm curious about their odor too). Based on cap color/size/habitat alone, I will suggest Hypholoma to be ruled out first.

    Both Hypholoma capnoides and H. fasciculare are abundant in the Vancouver area right now. The first is edible and the second one is poisonous; so check out the descriptions in a Website like mushroomexpert.com. Since H. capnoides is not considered a very good edible, it's probably best to avoid eating it. There are lots of good edibles out there right now, such as Chanterelles.
