    Hello,

I took a photo of this tree outside my apartment and attached the image to this forum post. I outlined sections that stood out due to what I identified as lack of foliage.

I was wondering why the tree is partially dead or appears to be dead? I was also wondering is there a way to fix this? ...can we prevent this?

Let me know what you think!

Looks like in need of pruning. As for the cause of the problem, well, may be just too much asphalt around?

Talk to whoever is in charge of grounds maintenance in your complex. Talk to a local landscaper. Talk to your neighbours to get some pruning done. That is not a nice thing to loook at, is it?

Silver Maples are short lived trees; it may be dying of old age.

Are they really short-lived trees? I have several in our area that are enormous specimens...probably 80-90 feet high with a several foot diameter. They look healthy and thriving, and have been there for at least 50 years.

Ah... short-lived meaning *only* 130 years or so. ;) I don't think the OP's tree is anywhere near old age.
