We have a 3 year old cherry tree and since the middle of the summer what look like tiny black bugs that are covering any new leaf growth, we took the leaves off and any new growth got the bugs.

Anyone got any ideas of the bug and how to control it?

    Thanks

    Jon

Look up aphids ("blackfly" in UK).

Those Black Aphids are very common around here (Vancouver BC). They just totally infest the new growth on Cherrys and Maples. If your pest is Aphids, then you should have no problem killing them. Diazinon, Safers Soap, or even enough water pressure from your garden hose. Poor aphids are so defenceless, Jim.
