In The Garden: 'Aggresive' looking plant

    This plant appeared in a crack in the pavement this year. The flower, which closed in full sun before I could photograph it was a most unusual shape - a cone - like a letter 'V'. Colour of flower: Purple, rather like Scottish thistle colour. One flower only was open.
    Overall plant height about 18 inches. Date of photo: 26 May 2015, location, Kent UK. The plant looked as if it was very 'spiky' or sharp but was not.
    I.D. please!
