My husband and I have been trying to figure out what exactly this is, it might not even be a shurb. It is growing between our plum tree and rhododendrons. There appears to be no flower or anything but it does get full sunlight. Any idea what it is?

Makes me think of Ardisia, or a hardy relative of it.
