I found a number of these trees in an old farm field in Pennsylvania. The fruit isn't quite ripe yet but when I ripped one open it smelled vaguely like apricot and had a single pit. Maybe some kind of plum?

Yes, plum or apricot, or maybe a hybrid between them.

    Compare with Prunus americana.
