Last Autumn I collected the seeds from my crocosmia and have germinated lots. Will they come true and, if so, how long will it take?

Development will probably be fairly rapid but other seedlings I have seen, while of similar structure to the parent, were not red.

We saw the same thing as Ron writes when
we grew some seedlings from seed also in
that the offspring can be more of an orange
in color than the parent plants were being
more of a scarlet red. We grew and sold
our seedlings as assorted Crocosmia, not
as Croscosmia 'Lucifer'. The more true
method of propagation is from separating
the bulblets from the clumps of bulbs and
even then there may be some slight color
variance shown in some of the offspring.

    Is it worth persisting?

Yes, it is. You may even select out a darker
or a richer red than the parents are as we
    were able to do.
