    Clethra arborea? Not sure it's quite right for that though.

    This is NOT what I am looking for right now, but it came up when I was looking for Clethra. It's fiddlewood, species probably Citharexylum spinosum, based on the pointed-tipped leaves. It is in the Verbenaceae family and is native to the Americas, is a pest on O'ahu.
