My mom has had an aloe vera plant on our porch for years, but now I've noticed that there is a strange yellow-green mushroom type thing growing in the pot with the aloe vera plant. What it is and why is it there?

Leucocoprinus is not harmful to the plant. In fact, there is a also a huge mycelial mat in the potting soil with helps retain moisture for your plant.
